Beginner Level - No experience required

This course is focused on the fundamentals of throwing technique including wedging, centering, trimming, basic shaping and glazing. Included in the course is an introduction to the principles of throwing and mindfulness and the integration of the two.

Intermediate

The focus of this course is the refinement and integration of the fundamental skills of throwing. We will introduce students to closed-neck bottles, lidded jars, pitchers, larger bowls, and plates. There will be a deepening of the mindfulness practice and its application in the ceramic process.

Advanced

This course introduces more complex forms and techniques including teapots, thrown and altered forms, throwing off the hump, and an introduction to decorative mark making.

Beginner - No experience necessary

In this course we introduce students to the basic techniques of hand-building assembly including coil building, slab building, surface treatments, and the hand carving technique of Kurinuki.

Intermediate

In this unique course, you'll explore the art of coiling to create expressive and organic sculptures, while embracing the principle of Organicity—the idea that creativity flows naturally when we trust the process.

Intermediate

Create a stacked sculpture using slab construction, focusing on the principle of unity. This course will guide students through the process of building an interconnected sculpture, exploring how individual pieces come together to form a cohesive whole.

Intermediate

An Introduction to the basic methodologies of testing glazes using progressions and blends. This class will mostly consist of glaze testing; students will have completed dozens of tests over the duration of the course. This course will set the foundation and get you started on the journey of developing a set of glazes.

Intermediate

An exciting workshop on the ancient art of pit firing, where open flames produce natural, earthy tones and organic patterns on ceramics. The first two days include demos and work time to create pieces, followed by a communal beach firing a week later, completing the process in an open-flame pit.

Beginner - No experience necessary

An introduction to the Japanese art of Kurinuki through carving a cup from a solid block of clay. Students can achieve wonderfully gestural, unique, and highly textured wares in this 1 day workshop.
